About Our Boat Alarms.
Columbia Boat Alarms, Inc. manufactures
and sells intruder alarms for boats. Installation is simple and most individuals will have no difficulty with the alarm installation.
Installation instructions for each of our alarms is available on this web site.
All Columbia Boat Alarm systems use a key-fob remote control to activate and deactivate the alarm.
We offer three alarm systems, two use wire between the alarm control and the sensors. One model uses wireless communication between the alarm control
and the wireless transmitter mounted near the alarm sensor. A simulated (Dummy) alarm is also available. The wired systems and the simulated alarm all feature a red blinking
LED when the alarm is active. This blinking LED should be located where it is visible from outside the boat and near a sticker warning that this
boat is protected with an an alarm system. The intent is to cause a would-be intruder to look for an easier boat to burglarize. The alarm featuring the
wireless communication (Model 201 does not have the blinking LED.)
When a protected snap on the canvas cover is opened, our canvas snap sensors send an alarm.
This is the primary defense against an intruder entering the boat. Obviously an intruder can slice the canvas and enter the boat without unsnapping the canvas.
Additional sensors are available for use inside the boat to provide security for hatches, doors and movable windows. All of the the above sensors
alarm when a magnet is moved away from the sensor or when a sensor wire is cut.
A pressure mat sensor is available for use inside the boat. The pressure mat is hidden under a rug in an area where an intruder is likely to step
inside the boat. If the wires to the pressure mat are cut the alarm WILL NOT sound so the pressure mat should not
be used as the primary alarm. The pressure mat and the wires to it should be carefully hidden.
Protection for the trolling motor is provided with the new cable wrap sensor. When equipped with this sensor, the active alarm will sound whenever the cable
which is wrapped around and through the motor is cut or disconnected. It can be wired to alarm if the coaxial cable is shorted. For instance, suppose a burglar
attempted to short the coaxial cable across the motor and then cut the cable. The cable wrap sensor provides protection against this senario.
This our newest alarm sensor uses a coaxial cable that is threaded though the item to protect. The cable can be threaded though a spoke on the boat trailer, or though any
item. The active alarm will sound if the cable is cut or if it is "shorted out". This sensor allows protection for items that can be difficult to protect.
The Columbia Boat intrusion alarm cannot stop or prevent a burglary. However, a properly installed active system will cause a loud siren to sound when
any of the alarm sensors is tripped. The intent is to discourage a would-be intruder, who will probably leave as soon as the siren sounds. An adequately
charged battery is essential for the operation of the alarm.
